The Lecht is the smallest of Scotland’s five ski centres, but at 2090 feet high with 200 vertical runs, it certainly packs a massive punch for Scottish skiing.
With equipment hire, if you have forgotten your gear. Offering a trip up the Chairlift to admire the views for non-skiers and just the thrill of being in the remote Scottish landscape, you can turn a day at the Lecht into a day for anyone to enjoy.
Unique Things to Do in Scotland – Travel the Snow Roads
If skiing is not your thing, but you enjoy the vista a snowy landscape provides, you will enjoy a drive along The Snow Roads. You are so named because this route traverses some of the most scenic of Scotland’s Cairngorm Mountains range. The highest public road in the UK takes note because, in winter, this road can be the first to be closed to traffic, especially around Tomintoul.
Tomintoul is the highest village in the Cairngorms and the largest community on Glenlivet Estate. It oozes history and rugged grandeur, founded by a Duke in the 18th century.
No matter the time of year, these roads make for a lovely day exploring; take your time and find charming Highland villages, beautiful vantage points, stunning moorland walks or smugglers routes and Castles. You can find castles in all forms, from Fortresses to Royal to Ruins, but they are all wondrous and make Scotland the truly magical destination it is renowned for.
More things to do in Scotland – Travel on a Steam Railway
Whilst many people associate Scotland with the Jacobite Express, sometimes there is not time to fit everything in. If you want a more local Steam Railway offering dramatic Scottish scenery and a relaxing lunch, try the Strathspey Steam Railway.

Departing from Aviemore, located in the heart of the Monadhliath and Cairngorm Mountains. The train takes you past heather-clad moors and woodland, travelling parallel with the Speyside way.
As you enter the Boat of Garten (known as The Osprey Village), you will see one of the area’s finest golf courses. The course was designed by James Braid and created by locals and rail workers! The RSPB observation hides at the Osprey Centre is 5 miles from the village. Ospreys are more likely seen during summer when the Ospreys return from the warmer climates of Africa.
The terminus Broomhill Station is five miles from Boat of Garten, heading north alongside the river Spey. The forests in this area offer natural diversity with plenty of wildlife and nature to explore here. The views from Broomhill are well worth making the journey by train.
Make sure you get off the train at the Station, there are photo opportunities with the scenery, and you can walk up to the locomotive to meet the driver and firefighter and perhaps get some photos on the footplate.
