So, you are planning your trip to Scotland and you are thinking about the best way to get to Inverness from London. Well I am going to tell you the both the smartest and the most romantic way!
Answer – The Caledonian Sleeper Train
Imagine a full day in London sightseeing, then make your way to Euston station, have a drink in the first-class lounge and then find Sleeper Cabin on the Caledonian Sleeper – considered to be one of the World’s best over night train trips and with new cabins about to get even better. Check into your cabin, order your breakfast and relax, you are on holiday.
London to Inverness
As you pull out of London late at night you will have had time to eat dinner before boarding or you can enjoy dinner on the train. I prefer to eat before I get onboard and then have a nightcap with fellow passengers who can often be an interesting eclectic group! If you have been sightseeing all day this overnight trip is a great way of saving your vacation time and adding to your experience.
This is the best bit – going to sleep as the train pulls slowly out of London and then you wake up to view of the majestic mountains of the Cairngorms National Park, to Blair Athol Palace and rolling Scottish hillsides and you know you have arrived in Scotland. You can feel the excitement on the train as you get closer to your destination.
Arriving at Inverness – the Gateway to the Scottish Highlands
You have slept your way to your destination and are ready to explore. Inverness train station is in the middle of the city so you can explore straightaway, find a taxi or arrange a hire car. Blervie House is a scenic 40-minute drive from Inverness. If you are new to driving in Scotland this is a great place to start and you can choose which city or airport in Scotland to return the car.
